So much is happening in our world, and it’s accelerating. Every day brings new headlines. Every hour brings new tensions. Yet this is not chaos without direction. This is not out of control. There is One who reigns above it all, who allows, restrains, and guides history according to His power, purpose, and grace.
Once again, we turn to the troubling subject of antisemitism. A new report from B’nai Brith Canada, released in April, shows that antisemitic incidents in Canada have risen by nearly 150% compared with the period before October 7. This is the highest level on record since tracking began in 1982. The study also highlights a disturbing trend online: Holocaust denial is spreading rapidly on social media and is even being amplified by artificial intelligence that distorts and falsifies historical events.
Yet, within this alarming picture, there is an unexpected development. While antisemitism has increased across most of Canada, the report notes a decline in Quebec and Alberta. In Montreal and across Quebec, serious incidents followed on October 7 and persisted throughout the Gaza war. The year 2024 saw a sharp spike, but in 2025 the numbers began to decline. According to the report, this decline is attributed to stronger policing, increased security around Jewish institutions, and the Quebec government’s swift response. In particular, the implementation of Bill 9, which regulates communal prayer in certain public spaces, has helped restore public order.
However, this does not mean that antisemitism has disappeared in Quebec. It remains present. But it shows that when authorities act decisively, it can be contained. Where there is indifference, it grows. Where there is resolve, it is restrained. This speaks to us as well. How are we reacting to antisemitism? Are we praying about it? Are we defending Israel?
And around the world, the situation is worsening. A study released on April 13 reports that anti-Jewish incidents involving violence are increasingly common across Western countries. In fact, many nations are now recording the highest yearly numbers of antisemitic acts on record. This past year alone, twenty Jewish people were murdered in four separate attacks across three continents. We are witnessing a dangerous progression: hatred is no longer limited to words or harassment; it is escalating into violence, even murder.
In England, especially, the situation has reached a critical point. Just last Thursday, a UK government counterterrorism adviser declared antisemitism a national security emergency. This followed a knife attack in London the day before, in which two Jewish men were injured. And this morning, according to the UK’s top cop: British Jews face their greatest ever threat amid an antisemitism ‘epidemic’
It is a sobering moment for a nation once known for strong moral leadership. President Trump recently spoke about Keir Starmer, the UK prime minister, saying he is not Winston Churchill. While he said it for other reasons, we can see that when it comes to British governmental reactions to antisemitism, he ranks far from Churchill, who was a strong supporter of Israel. Churchill is known for saying: “Some people like Jews and some do not; but no thoughtful man can deny the fact that they are beyond all question the most formidable and the most remarkable race which has appeared in the world.” The contrast is striking, and the urgency of the moment is undeniable.
The conflict with Iran and the tension around the Strait of Hormuz show no clear signs of easing. One day, there is talk of peace; the next, warnings of war. Just yesterday, Israeli media reported that Israel is preparing for another possible confrontation with Iran as Trump considers renewed military action. Yet once this conflict begins to subside and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is brought under control, the focus may once again shift toward renewed peace efforts in and around Israel.
Discussions could resume around the Abraham Accords and broader regional initiatives, including what some have called a ‘Board of Peace’ for the Middle East, which may eventually lead to the approaching 7-year false peace treaty between the antichrist and Israel, as prophesied by Daniel. Let us remember: these efforts were first halted by the events of October 7, and then, just as they were restarting, they were interrupted again by the war with Iran. It is as though powerful forces are resisting these developments.
At the same time, another important shift may be unfolding in Israel. A new government could soon take shape, possibly with the return of Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid. If they replace Benjamin Netanyahu, it could significantly reshape the nation’s direction and potentially reopen the door to these peace initiatives. We are truly living in remarkable times.
