Israel’s latest election was considered one of the most important in the nation’s history, and that wasn’t just politicians’ opinion. Nearly 80% of Israelis believed the election was especially important and turned out to vote. Such a strong turnout suggests a nation deeply concerned about its future and many Israelis seeking a new direction.
For some time now, they have endured one conflict after another, including Hamas, Hezbollah, attacks by Iran and the Houthis, and ongoing violence in Judea and Samaria, commonly known as the West Bank. Added to all this is the steady rise in anti-Israel sentiment, accusations of genocide and apartheid, and the spread of antisemitism across the globe. Many Israelis are weary of war and long for peace, and it seems they are willing to pursue almost any means to achieve it.
Consider the following surprising facts about this election. Among Israel’s political parties, there is a bloc of Arab Muslim and secular parties that represent the interests of many of the approximately two million Arab Israeli citizens living in Israel. In this election, these parties nearly doubled their seat count! They went from 10 seats in 2022 to 19 seats in 2026.
The increase was so surprising that Benjamin Netanyahu alleged the election might have been stolen through illegal foreign funding, particularly from Qatar and Turkey. Now, Israel’s internal security agency, Shin Bet, and Israel’s national intelligence agency, Mossad, are investigating allegations of foreign interference.
Who are these Arab political parties? How do they view the State of Israel? For years, some of these parties have challenged Israel’s identity as a Jewish state. Many of their political objectives directly oppose policies that other Israelis consider essential to the country’s security and national identity. In the coming days and weeks, the parties will seek to form alliances and build a government with a Knesset majority of at least 61 seats.
But here is something remarkable. According to a Hebrew University Accord Center survey conducted on election night and reported by The Jerusalem Post, 61% of voters from four major opposition parties favored forming a government with Ra’am, one of Israel’s Arab parties. Yet only 7% favored forming a coalition with the ultra-Orthodox Jewish parties.
Think about that! Among these opposition voters, they were far more willing to form a government with an Arab party than with the ultra-Orthodox Jewish parties. And in terms of popularity, the Orthodox Jewish parties won only 13 seats in this election, compared with 19 seats for the Arab parties.
What is going on in Israel? Are Jews turning against one another even in the land of Israel?
Here is a question we, as Bible believers, ask: Could this reaction among Israelis, with the majority willing to see Arab parties form part of the coalition, be an unrealistic and detrimental hope for peace and a preparation for the coming false peace treaty, the very covenant foretold by the biblical prophets, which Israel will ultimately enter into to its own detriment?
For years, we have wondered: How could Israel, surrounded by so much hostility and hatred, ever agree to such a peace treaty? It looks like they are more ready than ever. We have seen that Daniel 9:27 speaks of a future peace treaty to be established before the Messiah’s Second Coming.
This brings us to another remarkable prophecy in the book of Ezekiel. In chapters 38 and 39, Ezekiel describes the future war of Gog and Magog, which Jewish commentators have also associated with the coming of the Messiah. Notice something extraordinary. Twice, Ezekiel describes Israel dwelling in security just before this war. In Ezekiel 38:8, speaking of the latter days, after Israel has been gathered from its long dispersion among the nations, the prophet describes the people as “living securely, all of them.” Then, in verse 11, he describes Israel as “a people who are at rest, that live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates.”
Think about that! How could a nation that has endured so many wars, attacks, and hostility come to believe it is finally living in peace and security, especially when its enemies’ hostility has not disappeared? In fact, in this very book, Ezekiel speaks of what God calls “everlasting enmity” (Ezekiel 35:5).
Could Israel one day be persuaded that it has finally achieved peace, even as the dangers surrounding it persist? A nation weary of war, exhausted by conflict, and desperate for security may finally be willing to embrace peace at almost any cost. Today, we may be witnessing the very conditions that will lead Israel toward that fateful covenant foretold by Daniel. Could the peace it is pursuing become the very thing that leads it into its greatest hour of danger?
If this is indeed what lies ahead, what ought we to do? We must warn them! In doing so, we must seek to bring them back to the source of truth, the Scriptures. For it is there, in the prophetic Word of God, that Israel, and indeed the whole world, can discover what lies ahead.
And more importantly, it is there that they can discover the only One who can give them true and lasting peace, not the peace promised by the rulers of this world, but the peace found in the Messiah, Yeshua, the Savior of the world.
The One who came to save is the One who is coming again! And His coming draws ever nearer.
