We are now in the month of Elul. In the Hebrew calendar, this is the month preceding the Feasts of Israel, the month of Tishrei. This month contains no days of remembrance, no holidays, no fasts, however, it is considered a month of preparation for the next holiday coming up which is Yom Terouah, the Feast of Trumpets, which for believers in Messiah, symbolizes our reunion with the Lord via the Rapture. And what is interesting is that Elul is an acronym of “אני לדודי ודודי לי” – I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine, from the Song of Songs 6:3, which describes the Lord and His people’s mutual longing for each other.
We have seen how Yeshua decided not to drink the 4th cup of wine during the last supper but kept it for the moment of our reunion with Him. And in the synagogues, every day of the month of Elul, after the morning prayer, they sound the shofar in remembrance of this longing.
And so, with the soon approaching Feasts of Israel, it is a time of preparation, a time of rejoicing at the fact that we will and very soon come into the presence of the Lord. Yes, there are many signs of the end times around us, but for us, they all lead to this moment of reunion with our Savior. We will be celebrating Yom Terouah at Beth Ariel Congregation in two weeks, which will be followed by Yom Kippur and then Succoth (Tabernacles).
This is a great time of year which celebrates the redemptive work of Yeshua the Messiah and Redeemer.
