1. He trampled on its head, remembering Genesis 3:15.
2. He grabbed it by the tail, smashed its head against a rock, and hung it on a bronze pole.
3. He fled.
4. He fell to his knees to worship the Lord, and the serpent immediately became a staff again.
3 is the correct answer.
“So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.” Exodus 4:3
Standing before the great I AM, the Creator of heaven and earth, Moses nevertheless ran from a snake! Yet we should not be too hard on him. We have the Spirit of God dwelling within us, and we, too, sometimes flee when faced with fear or uncertainty.
God then called Moses back and instructed him to take the serpent by the tail, an act of faith. When Moses obeyed, it became a staff again, his shepherd’s rod.
Every time Moses later used that staff, he was likely reminded that God’s power is greater than his fears. The lesson is the same for us: faith grows when we trust God and obey Him despite our fears.
