For at least these last 2000 years and perhaps as early as at the time of Nehemiah, every week, a portion of the Torah (the five books of Moses) would publicly be read. This reading formed an integral part of the Shabbat synagogue service. The reading is divided into 54 portions and is read over the course of one full year. We believe that studying these 54 portions encourages our walk with the Lord, our understanding, and our application of His Word.
