Heat Wave

Have you noticed how quickly the weather keeps shifting? It’s not just that the days have been unusually hot; it feels as though we are watching a race to break more records with each passing week. In fact, in just June and July of this year alone, more than 3,000 temperature records were broken across the United States and Canada. Clearly, something unusual is happening with the weather.

In Europe, France, Spain, and Portugal, hundreds of broken temperature records were also reported. In Israel, in the southern city of Eilat, it reached close to 50 degrees or 122 degrees Fahrenheit. But this is not all. We also see the same trend with forest fires, which are breaking records not only in number but also in intensity. NASA satellite data over 21 years indicates that extreme wildfires are now more frequent, intense, and larger.

In Canada, forest fires were in the news almost daily this summer. Reports indicate that the 2025 wildfire season has already become the second-worst on record, with more than 7.3 million hectares burned—nearly 78% above the recent five-year average.

Across Europe, 2025 is on track for one of the continent’s most destructive wildfire season ever. Fires have burned 50% more area than in 2024. And these fires are inching their way increasingly closer to urban areas, as reported by the Financial Times. They report that this year, forest fires have come dangerously close to major capitals such as Madrid, Athens, Lisbon, Sydney, and Dallas.

Clearly, something unusual is happening, and there may be a prophetic connection. When we examine the Scriptures, where the Creator reveals His will, we discover that such drastic changes and record-breaking events are not without meaning. They serve as warnings, signs pointing to greater changes yet to come, and they call us to lift our eyes to the Almighty in faith and repentance.

Consider the past: the Flood, the plagues of Egypt, the droughts and famines before Israel’s fall as foretold in Deuteronomy 28 and Leviticus 26. Each of these judgments in Scripture was preceded by repeated warnings—signs that many chose to ignore. In much the same way, we are beginning to see warnings in our own day, written into the very patterns of the weather.

The prophets also spoke of similar disturbances that will intensify just before the Second Coming of the Messiah. The book of Revelation, for example, describes how God often uses nature itself—droughts, floods, earthquakes, and even signs in the heavens- as signals. But it is not only the weather that testifies to major changes in our world. Countless other signs surround us, and when viewed together, they reveal that His coming is drawing ever nearer.

These things, then, are not random events; they serve both as solemn warnings of approaching judgment and as gracious calls for people to repent and return to Him. The prophet Joel declared that at the end, these signs will be so numerous and intense that, “It will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered” (Joel 2:32).

Today, through these upheavals and signs, God is calling people to turn to Him. And in this, we find great comfort: He is sovereign over every change, every storm, every fire. His purpose is not destruction but salvation—to draw people to Himself for eternity. Once again, the fields are white for harvest. People are asking questions, wondering what is happening. This is a powerful opportunity, perhaps unlike any other in our lifetime, to point them beyond the chaos of this world to the Lord of heaven and earth—the One who holds history in His hands, who foretold these things long ago, and who alone offers true hope, peace, and salvation.
