Israel and the Nations
The Power of Deception
Now let me tell you about the lie. Among the many prophecies concerning the end times, there’s one in particular I want to share with you today, one whose message seems to be taking root and spreading across the world. This prophecy is found in 2 Thessalonians 2: 10-12 which says, “…because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. For this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
While this prophecy points to the coming of the Antichrist and a world that will be swept away by his lies, we can already see the early traces of this deception today, and, true to the biblical pattern, it begins with the Jew first.
Today, there is a steadily rising spread of lies against Israel and the Jewish people, and the world seems increasingly willing to believe each one. Lies that have in the past been precursors to many pogroms and holocausts. Lies and conspiracy theories, such as Jews secretly controlling global finances, politics, the media, or technology. Along with this, we have Holocaust deniers or those minimizing the claims, suggesting that the Holocaust information we have is exaggerated, or that Jews exploit this information solely for political gain.
Among the many false accusations leveled against Israel are claims that it is a colonial or apartheid state, or that it is committing genocide in Gaza. These charges ignore the reality that roughly 2 to 2.1 million Palestinians are citizens of Israel, living securely and enjoying the same rights, protections, and benefits as any other Israeli. This is not genocide. Negative news about Israel often spreads quickly through the media, sometimes without proper verification of its source. When such reports are later proven false, any corrections—if they are made at all—rarely receive the same level of attention or visibility as the original story.
There is one photograph that has appeared thousands of times across global media. Because of copyright laws, I cannot show you the image itself, but I can describe it. Many of you have likely seen it already: on the front page of a prestigious newspaper, The New York Times, dated July 25, 2025, a woman wearing a hijab is tenderly cradling her young child. The child’s condition is visibly heartbreaking—his spine protrudes, his arms are frail and underdeveloped.
The caption claims the boy was recently diagnosed with severe malnutrition. A doctor is quoted as saying that the number of children dying from malnutrition in Gaza has sharply increased. The same photograph and narrative were repeated by the following respected outlets:
The Washington Post: “Mass starvation stalks Gaza”
CNN: “Palestinians are starving or being killed by Israeli troops”
The Guardian: “Skeletal children fill hospital wards as starvation grips Gaza”
Al Jazeera: “Unforgivable” that world is standing by as Israel starves Gaza”
However, investigation by other credible sources revealed that the child’s condition was not caused by starvation, but by a severe genetic disorder diagnosed years earlier. In fact, this boy was treated in Israel for the same condition in 2018. The original photo also showed another child in the background—his brother—who appeared well-nourished and healthy. This part of the image was deliberately cropped out.
This false narrative originated from Hamas’s so-called “Defense Ministry.” After the Israeli government exposed the truth, only CNN issued a short update. The others remained silent, leaving their audiences to believe a lie that had already been disproven. Sadly, this is just one example among many in which unverified—and often deliberately false—stories are spread about Israel.
Let’s focus for a moment on another people entirely. Are Sudanese children somehow less human in the eyes of the world? Right now, over 37 million children under the age of five in Sudan suffer from acute malnutrition, with another 10 million facing severe, life-threatening malnutrition. And yet not one of these same major media outlets has devoted a front page to their plight. Why the silence?
Are we witnessing the beginning of the nations turning against Israel, just as the prophets foretold would happen before the return of the Messiah? The spreading of lies is not a side issue in Scripture—it is central to end-times prophecy. Yeshua Himself warned that deception would grow so convincing and widespread that, if possible, even the elect would be deceived (Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22). That means even Bible-believing Christians will be tempted to believe the lies. If there was ever a time to examine and verify what we hear about Israel, it is now.
If there is one source of eternal truth that never fails and never fades, it is the Scriptures. They speak with clarity to our present, with certainty to our future, and with the authority of the very Word of God.
