In the News…
Let’s start off with something very surprising! We are by now, quite familiar with the daily events reported to us, coming out from Israel. We regularly read about attempted ramming of cars or stabbing attacks. However, quite incredibly and according to a recent study, Israel is ranked as the 5th safest country among the 50 countries in the world most widely visited by tourists. And that means a lot for the more than 2 million tourists who visited Israel between January and October in 2022. What should be factored into this is that many of the terror attacks we hear about in Israel do not target the tourists per se.
The study was carried out by serious organizations, including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the World Health Organization, the World Bank and other organizations. What they call a travel safety index, is based on many variables including the number of homicide deaths, road traffic deaths, hygiene conditions, diseases, natural disasters and the like. And in terms of global rankings, the US placed 30th, Canada 21st, France 15th and the United Kingdom 10th. Only Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Singapore were considered safer.
We often hear people ask, why aren’t there miracles in Israel today like those we have seen in Bible times? But just look at Israel! This tiny country is not only a miracle in its survival in the midst of so many enemies around it but even within the country, with much animosity in the hearts of certain people living there, the miraculous mystery of survival and protection is very obvious.
