Thursday September 3, 2026 – Three sets given
On a warm evening, a team of two went door-to-door for the first time in over a year. Amid rampant antisemitism, it was uncertain whether Jewish people would answer the door to strangers, even in daylight. Having previously noted where the Jewish houses were, they set out in a new neighborhood where teams had not yet gone. Thankfully, no one seemed hesitant to open their door.
The team left a house where no one answered, but they met a woman who called out to them from a car parked at the side of her house. She accepted a set because her Brazilian houseguest could practice her English with the books. We gave her a QR code so the guest could download the Scriptures in Portuguese, and encouraged the homeowner to read the Bible herself as well.
At several homes, people declined the set, saying they would not read from it. But all received our wishes for a happy New Year and accepted a gospel tract for the holiday (Yom Teruah). Around a dozen tracts were distributed.
One young man came to the door wearing a T-shirt that read, “Jesus, give me a beer.” We began the conversation with that! He seemed secular, but he happily took a set and a tract from us and told us we were doing good work.
We met a woman who was struggling with relationship issues with her sister following their mother’s death. She really wanted to talk, so we listened for a while and offered wisdom. She had graduated from university with a degree in theology and believed in universalism. She still accepted a set and tract.
The willingness of people to open their doors gave the team hope for more door-to-door outings, even though it is dark near 8:00 p.m.
