For many years now we have been following the development of world events in relation to Bible prophecy, and the Scriptures have so much to say, to teach us, as it lays out a calendar of major events leading to the coming of Yeshua. Furthermore, as we move forward in time, we have often noticed the increasing frequency and intensity of these predicted occurrences, as Yeshua said it would be in His own prophecies of the end times (the Olivet discourse).
But have any in the secular world taken notice of these developments? Yes! Their warnings are sounding more and more like those of the prophets of the Bible. We are not talking about marginal conspiracy theorists but rather well educated and influential people. We have mentioned this group a few times in the past.
They are educated individuals from the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists founded in 1945 by Albert Einstein and J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who developed the first atomic bomb. Two years later, seeing the danger of these types of weapons, they created the Doomsday Clock which was designed to warn the public about how close we are to destroying our world using dangerous technologies. And so, every about two years since that time, a group of scientists and scholars from around the world assess the danger and the proximity of a nuclear war which could wipe out humanity.
Back in 1947, the clock was set at seven minutes before midnight. As time went on, the minute hand moved forward. In 2015 it was set at the three-minute mark. In 2017, it was moved to two and a half minutes, in 2018 at two minutes, and last year it was set at 90 seconds before midnight. Just last week on January 28th, they lowered that number to 89 seconds before midnight, the closest it has ever been in its 78-year history.
So, what is this group warning the world about? Let me tell you that if their comments were written down and found somewhere in the desert of the Negev, we might have thought that a 67th chapter of the prophet Isaiah had been found. Yet, as far as I know, none of these scholars are believers.
Here is what Daniel Holz, chairman of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists wrote in his recent conclusion. “Because the world is already dangerously close to the precipice, a move of even a single second should be taken as an indication of extreme danger and an unmistakable warning that every second of delay in reversing this course increases the probability of global disaster.”
What exactly brought them to move the clock closer to what they call “global disaster”? First, the nuclear threat. They claim that there are more and more nations with nuclear capabilities who are investing hundreds of billions of dollars in what can potentially destroy civilization. It is no longer unusual for countries without nuclear weapons to now consider developing arsenals of their own. Second, they are warning the world about the spread of misinformation, disinformation and conspiracy theories that increasingly blur the line between truth and falsehood. Third, they point out the high tension existing between the three world powers: China, Russia and the United States.
It is interesting that three of these world powers are among the four mentioned by the ancient prophets as those who will be rising up in the end. China is found to be among the Kings of the East who will rise before the Second Coming and come through the Euphrates to Armageddon. Russia represents the King of the North leading many countries to Israel for an invasion. The United States is among the western countries which will form a powerful world power and confront these other kings. It is from one of the western countries where the infamous antichrist will rise. The fourth power is the King of the South, gathering the Middle East and the African countries together. These scholars do not know the prophecies of Daniel, Ezekiel, John or even Paul, but their observations point to them anyway.
A fourth concern for these scientists is climate change. They say that 2024 was the hottest year on record and they expect more extreme weather for the coming years, bringing floods, tropical cyclones, extreme heat, and wildfires. Changes in the weather was one factor the Lord often used to warn Israel of impending wars.
Both the secular world and Bible believers agree on the direction the world is heading, however one factor that the secular world ignores is that there is a God over this earth who is regulating, in precision timing, all these things and who promises that, despite what will happen, there will be a new era of peace coming over this planet.
As for us, the most pressing thing is not only to warn the world that we are very close to midnight, but that there is a way out, that salvation through Yeshua is the eternal answer. And now we have more leverage in our arguments with the world because we can quote scientists and scholars using their own words to help lead many to see how powerful, precise and fully inspired Bible prophecies are.
